Serving Houston Since 2007—Backed by Generations of Craftsmanship

Rick's Front Door Refinishing has been beautifying Houston-area homes since 2007, but Rick's refinishing experience began long before then. As a fifth-generation craftsman raised in his family's piano restoration business, Rick learned the art of restoring fine wood at an early age. His family continues that tradition in the piano restoration business in Fort Worth today. That generations-old commitment to craftsmanship is still reflected in the care and attention given to every door.

Over 30,000 Doors Refinished

We've refinished more than 30,000 doors throughout the Greater Houston area. That experience gives our craftsmen the knowledge and skill to recognize each door's unique needs and deliver beautiful, proven results.

The Rick's Difference

More Than a Fresh Coat of Finish

Marine-Grade Finish Built to Last

We use the same high-performance coatings trusted on boats and yachts — engineered to withstand Houston's brutal heat, humidity, and UV exposure. Your door stays beautiful longer. You can also purchase extra coats to help add additional protection and longevity.

Refinish, Don't Replace

A brand-new door can cost thousands. Refinishing with Rick's delivers a like-new look at a fraction of the price — and keeps your original solid wood door out of the landfill. Plus we can email you a reminder every 2 years to check on a maintenance. A maintenance is a soft sand and add more finish, not a complete re-do.

4 Mobile Trucks — We Come to You

Our experienced craftsmen — many of whom have been part of the Rick's team for years — bring a fully equipped mobile refinishing shop directly to your home. We carefully remove your door, protect the opening with plastic and set up our workshop under a canopy near the curb. Your door is professionally refinished on-site and reinstalled when the work is complete—no hauling it to an off-site shop or waiting days for its return.

Thorough Preparation

We strip the old finish, sand and wash the wood before applying the new stain and protective finish. Proper preparation is one of the most important parts of achieving a beautiful, long-lasting finish.

Most single-door projects are completed in approximately 3–4 hours, while double doors typically take 4–6 hours. Most projects are completed in one day, although larger jobs may require additional time. No project is too large for our experienced team.

A Reputation We Stand Behind — Our Guarantee

A company doesn't serve Houston homeowners for 19 years without standing behind its work. Our reputation has been built one door and one satisfied customer at a time. If a concern arises after we complete your job, give us the opportunity to address it and make it right. We want you to feel proud every time you walk through your beautifully refinished door.

Every job is backed by our 6-month warranty on materials and workmanship.

Trusted Throughout Houston

From The Woodlands to Sugar Land, Katy to Pearland, Rick's has earned the trust of homeowners throughout the Greater Houston area. Our customers have included familiar Houston names such as Astros legend Jeff Bagwell, longtime news anchor Bill Balleza, radio and television personality Michael Garfield, and businessman John Beck.

Whether we're serving a well-known Houstonian or one of your neighbors, every door receives the same care, respect and commitment to beautiful results.

Knowledge is Power

Helpful Tips from Rick

Why Marine-Grade Finish Matters

Marine-grade finish is used on boats that sit in full sun all day long. It's the toughest, most UV-resistant protective coating available — which is exactly why Rick uses it on every door. Your front door faces the same relentless Texas sun, and it deserves the same protection.

Why Doors Crack in the Texas Heat

Think of the finish on your door as sunscreen. Without it, the wood dries out under the intense Texas sun and begins to crack. Once the protective coat is gone, the damage happens fast. Regular refinishing keeps the wood hydrated, sealed, and beautiful for years to come.

Why Your Front Door Should Be the Focal Point

Your front door should be easy to spot the moment someone arrives at your home. If it blends in with the trim and shutters — same color, same finish — it disappears into the facade. A beautifully stained or refinished door draws the eye, creates a welcoming first impression, and gives your home a distinct identity.

Why Refinishing Costs Less Than Replacing

A brand-new door can cost thousands. Refinishing with Rick’s can restore its beauty for a fraction of the cost while keeping your original solid-wood door out of the landfill.  We can also email you every two years as a reminder to check whether maintenance is needed. Maintenance generally involves lightly sanding the door and adding more protective finish—not completing another full refinish.

Why a Refinished Door Helps Sell Your Home Faster

Your front door is the very first thing a prospective buyer sees — and it tells a story. A cracked, faded door says neglect. A rich, beautifully refinished door says pride of ownership. That first impression sets the tone for the entire showing and signals to buyers that the home has been well cared for. It's one of the highest-return investments you can make before listing.

Why Wood Grain Sometimes Looks Lighter in Horizontal Panels

It's all about the direction of the wood. The horizontal boards on a door are called stiles — they run opposite to the vertical boards. Because the grain runs a different direction, light reflects off them differently, creating an optical illusion that makes them appear lighter or a slightly different shade. It's completely natural and a beautiful characteristic of real wood doors.

Why We Remove the Door to Refinish It

We prefer to refinish the entire door at the correct working height — off the hinges and laid flat. This lets us sand every inch evenly and apply a flawless finish without crouching down to reach the bottom panels. The result is a more consistent, professional finish from top to bottom that simply can't be achieved working on a door while it's still hanging in the frame.
